5 freelance jobs you can take on for extra cash

by Leave a Comment

Sometimes you might need a little extra cash to pay for a holiday or to get the car fixed. Some things can crop up at any time and usually when you least expect them.

Wouldn’t it be good to have a way to generate some extra cash without having to leave the house or go too far? Well, these are five freelancing jobs you might consider as a means of generating those quick funds.

  1. Earn from your hobby

If you have a hobby that you know a lot about, then why not see if you can generate a little additional income from either consulting or teaching other people? As an example, there are freelance jobs in the music industry where people can pay you to create promotional artwork or even animated videos for them.

There are many places that will let you post your profile with your experience and skills. You can then either bid for work that you see, or you can wait for people to contact you.

  1. Social media expert

Let’s face it, nearly everyone is online looking at their social media feeds and considering how they can find a witty remark to a post. While you may have time to scroll through your feed, many companies don’t. This is where you can start to earn money if you know a lot about how to get yourself noticed online.

Many companies will pay you to do their social media posting for them. They will need to know that you have the knowledge and experience to do a good job, but you can earn good money from simply doing what you always do. Plus, it is something you can do from the comfort of your own home outside of your regular job.

  1. Refurbishing old stuff

If you have the flair to refurbish something old and deteriorated and make it look new again, then this is a way you can make some additional cash. Markets, antique shops, and second-hand stalls are all great places to find old furniture and other items that you can transform into something new.

It might take you a little time to renovate the item, but you will then be able to sell it online such as on eBay or Etsy and make a profit. If this is something you love doing anyway at home, then it won’t be a problem for you.

  1. Pet-sitting

Many people have pets that they leave at home while they work. However, many of them employ a pet sitter or dog walker to help keep their pet happy while they are away. If you love animals and have enough patience with them, then you can offer to pet sit or walk dogs in your local area.

Place an ad in the local newspaper or your local veterinarian if they allow it, and speak to your friends and family in case they know anyone who needs this service. You can then do this on your days off from work or in the evenings to make some extra cash.

It is important to remember that you should meet the pets before you take on the job, so that you know about their temperament and how to take care of them.

  1. Tutoring

If you are an expert in maths or you have a degree in English, then you can offer your experience as a tutor. Many people now do this online since the pandemic, and there are lots of parents who want to get their children some extra help with the subjects they need to improve on.

There are groups and online sites that will let you advertise your expertise and see if someone wants to give you a try. After a little while, you will have built up a portfolio of work that you can use as evidence of your ability.

Some tutors can make £10 per hour or more depending on their experience and the level they are teaching. This is something you can do after work in the evenings as this is when most students will be available.

Ensure that you are using a reliable video conferencing application so that you get an uninterrupted session with your students. You also want to try and get feedback from the students and parents that you can use to improve and show to others.

Conclusion

There are many ways that you can start to make a little extra money. Many of them can be done at home with just your computer and the Internet. As you progress, you can start to charge more as you will become more experienced and more people will know about you.
