How to keep your car well maintained

by Leave a Comment

Keeping your car well maintained is one of the easiest ways to cut running costs when it comes to your car. A well-maintained car will function better and for longer and ultimately be safer, which in turn could reduce your insurance premiums in the long run.

Maintaining your car goes beyond taking it to the car wash and hoovering it out every now and then. It means keeping your car legally roadworthy under UK laws and regulations. This will save you being fined for driving an unsafe car and getting points on your license, which will ultimately drive your premiums back up.

Luckily, there are some easy and cost-effective ways to maintain your car and keep you running costs to a minimum. From regular servicing to checking your tyres and lights, here are my top tips to keep your car maintained and save you some cash.

Check your tyres

Keeping your tires in good conditioned and filled with air will help keep your car maintained. Good quality tyres in good repair will support your car when on the road and keep you driving safely. It is especially important to check your tyres before a long journey.

Regular MOT and servicing

It is a legal requirement that your car’s MOT and service history is kept up to date and each are undertaken on an annual basis. This will also help you stay on top of any concerns with your car. It is important for older or used cars to be serviced regularly to keep them in road worthy condition.

Check for windscreen chips

Chips in windscreens can soon become huge cracks and eventually end up as entirely shattered windscreens. Checking for chips and getting them repaired when they appear will keep you and your car safe from dangerous cracks.

Check your oil regularly

Oil keeps your engine running smoothly and ultimate your entire car in good working order. Check your oil levels on a regular, probably monthly, basis to keep your car ticking over and your engine safe and road worthy.

Ensure all your lights work

This includes headlamps, taillights, indicators and fog lights. Proper lighting will keep your car safe and roadworthy. It is quick and easy to check your lights before you drive at night, so make sure you stay on top of these.

Staying on top of your car maintenance will save you money and keep you safe on the road.
