Save money with tips from the depression era

by Leave a Comment

There are times that you see your grandparents doing things and you think ‘wow that’s almost insane’ but taking heed of how they save the little things could actually save you a lot more money today in the long run than you would expect.  The article on Buzz Feed has many different tips that work well, here we have listed four which you could implement immediately.

Tip 1 – Save everything and fix where you can

Instead of throwing away the skirt that needs re-hemming or the shirt that has lost a button, learn to do basic mending and fix your clothing.

Tip 2 – Reuse glass containers

All jars that you buy with pasta, jam and other food items inside can be re-used as drinking glasses.  When you have an accident and a glass breaks, its no longer going to be the end of the world.

Tip 3 –Grow your own

Grow your own herbs and vegetables, most of them can be grown in pots so you do not even have to worry about having a large garden and you will always have fresh herbs when necessary for a recipe.

Tip 4 – Substitute ground beef

Instead of using the full amount of ground beef for a meal, use half beef and half lentils.

Re-using items and fixing things which are broken are the simplest ways to save yourself a lot of money on a regular basis.
