How to be more productive when working from home

October 16, 2020 by Julie Leave a Comment

In these strange times we find ourselves in, it is a challenge to adapt to new working environments and still perform at our best. Working from home presents a multitude of challenges, from morale and motivation to collaboration.

Therefore, it is a good idea to research the best tools and practices around that can help you to be more productive. From utilising UK HR software (see below paragraph) to transitioning into work mode, we will talk you through some ways to improve your performance from home.

Get software that will streamline your processes

A good place to start is to have a look at any tools that can ensure your business is running smoothly from its very foundation.

This is where software such as HR software comes in; from training and development to pay, rewards, and performance reviews – an efficient cloud-based HR system centralizes your whole staff-related data.

This means that you can keep track of employee progress and help them to feel their career development is being well looked after too.

Don’t just dive into work

Although a long commute can be draining at times, it does have some benefits which working from home mean you could be missing out on.

When you just get out of bed, switch your computer on and dive straight into work mode, then close your computer and head straight into personal time in the evening, you are not being allowed to process the day properly.

Experts have suggested that commutes offer benefits to employees, such as self-development as well as contemplating their roles leading to increased job satisfaction. So, a good idea is to give yourself at least 15 minutes on either side of your working day to let your mind wander, plan, and process your working day.

Keep a whiteboard on the wall

One of the biggest challenges of working from home is the lack of creativity and collaboration. It can be the death of idea generation as sitting in a room all day alone is not exactly a breeding ground for innovation.

However, simply placing a whiteboard on the wall, or an easel in the corner with paper and markers means that you can recreate a work environment in your home.

Then, in the same way, that you would sit around in a meeting room with colleagues and brainstorm, you can pop ideas on there when the urge takes you.

The fact that you can wipe it clean and start over, or look at your board from across the room to remind yourself of your goals just gives more of a sense of fluidity to harness creativity more.

Make your space relaxing

Declutter, paint it, buy a plant – do as much as you can to make your home office a place that helps you to focus.

It is no good trying to concentrate on a huge list of tasks when you are distracted by bright colors on the walls or lots of clutter everywhere.

So, try to create a place to work that is minimalistic, neat, and tidy and also somewhere with plenty of natural sunlight. However, you also don’t want light glaring in on you, so make sure to create a balance.

Conclusion

Hopefully, by employing all of these tips you can see the positive effects of a more work-friendly home office. If you feel like you have a clear mind and positive outlook there, you are more likely to achieve more work goals, and, most importantly, enjoy working from home.
