Easy Ways to Cut Your Business’ Energy Bills

February 13, 2020 by Julie Leave a Comment

Whether a small start-up or an international conglomerate, every business can and should look to reduce their energy costs. Not only is it an excellent way to free up funds and boost profit potential, it’s a vital step in easing environmental pressure, ensuring your company meets industry standards.

The good news is it’s often the simplest measures that add up to have the greatest impact. That said, here are some easy ways to start cutting your energy bills right away.

  • Weather-proof windows: Replacing the weather-stripping, caulk, or foam seals around windows and doors, installing blinds, and ensuring you have double glazing fitted throughout your premises is the best way to trap warm air in and keep cold air out. This means you can turn down the thermostat and significantly cut your heating bill.
  • Maximise natural lighting: Configure the layout of your office to make use of natural light as much as possible. Where you require a little boost, use energy saving bulbs, and consider installing dimmers and motion sensors, reducing the financial drain of unnecessary, wasted lighting.
  • Switch providers: Regularly comparing deals and switching utility providers when necessary is a great habit to get into. Utility Bidder take the fuss out of the process, scoping out the best deals for your business and providing you with a quote within minutes that could save you up to 45%.
  • Turn off devices: The average office is packed full of electrical equipment, be it laptops, projectors, smartboards, and printers, or even the beloved coffee machine! It’s all too easy to leave these on throughout the whole working day, but utilising sleep settings when something is not in use – or switching them off altogether – can really cut their energy consumption.
  • Encourage flexible working: Most people would love the opportunity to work from home a few days a week. If it allows them to fit work around their schedule, and reduces your energy bills, it’s win-win!
  • Generate your own energy: Installing solar panels can be an excellent long-term investment, allowing you to become increasingly self-sufficient by generating your own clean, renewable energy.
