How to make a house feel more homely

May 20, 2021 by Julie Leave a Comment

When moving into a new house it can be hard to make the space feel like your own. There are a number of different things that you can do to make a house feel more cosy and like a home. Here are a few easy and useful tips on how to make a house feel more homely.

Fill it with your furniture

One of the best ways to make a new space feel like your home is to fill it with all of your furniture. Furnishing a room with your beloved furniture will automatically make a space feel more homely. Your used furniture is familiar to you, and you will help you to feel comfortable and cosy in a space. If you have moved from one property to another, bringing all of your furniture with you is an easy way for you to feel comfortable in your new house straight away.

Find space for your belonging

Once you have furnished your house it is now time for you to find space for all of your other belongings. Displaying all of your personal belongings throughout your new house, such as photo frames, ornaments, plants, and candles will help to make your new space feel like your own. In doing this it will also add a lot of personality, life, and colour to your new house, making it feel more inviting and welcoming.

Hang stuff on the walls

Another great way to make a new house feel more homely, is to utilise the space on your walls. Hanging up photo frames, art, and prints can add a lot of colour and life to otherwise blank walls. If you haven’t already, you should definitely print of some photos of your friends and family to hang on your new walls. Places like Butterfly Print and Design offer large format printing, meaning you can print your photos off in any size you want to hang up in your new home.

Focus on finishes

Similar to displaying your personal belongings throughout your house and hanging pictures on your wall, focusing on the finishes can really make a new space feel more like home. Soft furnishing such as blankets, throws, pillows, and curtains make a room feel cosy and warm no matter what size the room is.

Get the lighting right

One of the greatest tips for making a space feel cosier and inviting is by getting the lighting right. Adding soft lighting, such as lamps and candles can make a huge difference. These types of lighting create a more welcoming and comfortable atmosphere in a house compared to the main light of a room. Ultimately, they are great at helping you to feel more comfortable and at home in your new place.

Hopefully with these few tips you will know exactly what you need to do when you move into your new space, and what it takes you make your new house feel like your home.
