Clothes shopping made easier - take inspiration from fashion shop displays

by Leave a Comment

Most people enjoy clothes shopping, most of the time. But sometimes it can become stressful. Particularly if you are trying to buy something for a special occasion and cannot find what you want. Or are shopping on a tight budget and struggling to make it stretch.

Surprisingly, in both of those situations, taking inspiration from fashion shop displays has the potential to help you. Read on and you will see how.

Engage in a little window shopping

Fashion retailers spend a lot of time and money on creating interesting and eye-catching window displays. This is the case even for those that mainly sell online. In the few stores they own they still take the time to showcase what they have to offer. They know that for many people “window shopping” really is a thing.

It is a great way to see what is available and to get inspiration. This is the case whether you are shopping for an outfit for a special occasion, work, or a weekend away. Spending an hour strolling up the main shopping street or a few mall aisles pays dividends. It gives you a good idea of what is available and how much you can buy the items that you like.

Dress like a mannequin!

Window shopping also provides you with outfit combination ideas. Often, you do not realise what works with what until you see them together. The window dressers and shop display outfits that dress mannequins spend years perfecting their trade. As you can see if you read this training guide it really is an art.

Every store works hard to make sure that the outfits that their mannequins are wearing work and look good. They want to be as helpful to their customers as possible.

So, the chances are if you like the way that combination of clothes looks on the shop´s mannequin you will like how it looks on you. So, go around the store and select the necessary items and try them on.

Take inspiration from a store´s posters

You can do the same with any outfit you see on any of the shop´s posters. Again, you know that the combination of clothes has been chosen carefully by someone who has almost certainly studied fashion, for many years. So, why not tap into that knowledge and see how you look in that particular outfit.

Pay particular attention to digital display screens

It is also worth lingering outside a shop to watch the slideshow or short videos that will likely be running on a digital screen. Digital signs for fashion stores are increasingly becoming a key way for them to communicate fashion tips and ideas to their customers. As a result, they can be a great source of information and outfit ideas.

Digital signs are found in more stores than ever and are often used for a range of different industries. High street retailers often show online discounts in-store. So, keep an eye out for anything interesting!

Look out for in-store flash promotions

Some stores also use their digital displays to tell customers about promotions. Spending a little time watching what comes up can easily alert you to a bargain that you would have otherwise missed.

Increasingly, fashion stores are offering short term promotions, which are designed to work for the type of shopper that is in the store at a particular time of the day. For example, in an area where there are a lot of office workers shopping for clothes at lunchtime, the offer around that time of the day, perhaps for a discount on a trouser suit. Whereas, on a Friday night, there may be a discount on partywear. Or the type of clothes people typically wear for a night out. So, next time you are in-store look up and see what is on offer and do so each time you go in.

These screens are also often used to advertise upcoming sales. When they are having a loyalty card drive or want more people to open online accounts with them many shops will offer a voucher for customers who accept that offer. Often, this will be advertised in-store on a poster or a digital display screen. When you see that kind of promotion it makes sense to consider taking advantage of it yourself. You can find out more about how to use loyalty cards to save money on all kinds of purchases, including clothes, by clicking here.

Take part

If your local fashion store is running an event, why not go? Usually, store owners spend a lot of time on transforming their displays, giving you the chance to be inspired all over again. These events are fun and often there will be special offers that are only available for a short period.

As you can see, it really is worth taking the time to look at fashion shop displays. You will enjoy them and be able to take inspiration from them.
