Three Ways to Take a Budget-Friendly Holiday This Year

by Leave a Comment

Despite the many statistics that show the incredible benefits of going on holiday, many workers in Manchester simply do not use their allotted time off. More specifically, one in three individuals working in the UK do not utilise annual company-provided holiday time. The number one reason cited when foregoing this time off is excess workload. However, another common concern among those who continue to work rather than taking an extended break is money.

A survey released in 2017 revealed that financial concerns have become such a burden that  “25% of workers reported money worries had affected their performance.” With the constant fatigue of workload and financial concerns that plague a significant number of individuals in the UK, making time for a holiday is more important than ever before. Thankfully, taking a restful and rejuvenating holiday doesn’t require major financial planning. Explore three practical strategies that make it simple for everyone to plan for a much-needed break.

Find areas in which you can temporarily reduce expenses

Almost everyone has an expense or two that they can reduce (or even eliminate). Whether you are spending too much on food, home expenses, or entertainment, putting your excess spending toward your holiday expenses adds up quickly. One example of this is spending on takeaway. In 2013, the Daily Mail reported that the average person spends £1,320 per year on this alone. By examining your individual spending on a weekly and monthly basis, you can quickly identify where you can temporarily reduce your expenses. Frequently saving just £5-£10 on a regular basis can help you find the extra funds to take your holiday.

Never pay full price for accommodation

The Internet is a fabulous place to find exclusive deals on your travel accommodations. With almost no effort, you can find all sorts of online travel specials. Discount codes, one-day deals, and other promotions make your accommodation more affordable than ever before. Want to maximise your savings even further? There are specific strategies that you can utilise when booking travel online. First, be flexible with your travel dates. This will give you wider access to the best deals being offered. Next, do not book during peak travel dates (e.g. major holidays). Finally, browse more than just one travel comparison website. This will give you the best idea of what really is a good price, and what is not.

Plan free or inexpensive activities

Travel can quickly become expensive when planning various excursions and activities. While deciding on the details of your holiday, be sure to plan free or inexpensive activities. Depending on where you are traveling, days at the beach, free or discounted museum admission, walks in public parks, and free tours of landmarks are excellent ways to have fun while spending next to nothing.

Although it may seem like taking a holiday is financially out of reach, there are dozens of ways to budget for an inexpensive break. Temporarily reducing or eliminating routine expenses, using the Internet to your advantage, and planning free or inexpensive activities are all exceptional ways to take a deserved rest.
