The cost of print cartridges and printing has come into the lime light as some people have started considering the differences between an inkjet printer and a laser printer.
Although a laser printer is able to print a lot more pages on one cartridge than the inkjet printer it is really a decision on the quality of print you need and the amount of printing you do in a year.
A person who is regularly printing photographs or lots of images would find that the quality of the print from a laser is lower than that of the inkjet and therefore the laser would not be a suitable purchase for them.
Do not buy a laser based only on the possible savings in the long term, it is a lot of money for the initial outlay as they are more expensive than the inkjet and if you are only printing a few hundred pages a year it is not a real saving in the long term.
