The recent announcement from the Hilton hotel in NYC that they are going to stop room service has started the investigation into how middle class spenders are missing out on the little luxuries in life while rich people are still able to get the same services.
Although it makes sense that the middle class companies need to streamline their expenditures and offer the basic services that their clientele are after, it is noteworthy that the little luxuries are an important part to making middle class people feel important.
The new trend is not only in the hospitality industry, it has filtered down to the retail industry as well, where the middle class department stores have very little floor assistants available to answer questions while the more elite stores have an assistant that will walk with you through the store from the moment you enter to the moment you leave.
