The H – 1B visa allows American companies to sponsor foreigners for a period of 3 years to work in America. The amount of applications for the H – 1B visa has skyrocketed since the start of recession in 2008, which has left the applications to a lottery for approval.
The problem with this is that American citizens who have the required skill set are being over looked for the positions in favor of foreigners. As the American economy recovers, companies are now looking to hire American citizens and foreigners for the position. The American congressmen are considering increasing the quota for the H – 1B visa to eliminate the lottery.
