Dream home? What women really really want is walk-in wardrobes and an ensuite!

An indoor swimming pool, walk-in wardrobe, conservatory and an ensuite bathroom – these are apparently among the top things women aspire to have in their dream homes.

Just take a few seconds and have a quick think about it – what would you want in your dream home?

Research from Ocean Finance has found the top thing British men and women would have in their dream home is an indoor swimming pool.

Shunning the leisure centre

More than one in three people (36%) agreed on this – that’s equivalent to over 18 million of us.

Just imagine saying goodbye to the leisure centre and cheerio to being kicked in the stomach by an overzealous swimmer in front!

There’s no need to stop at swimming pools either. Respondents were asked to rate up to five things they’d aspire for in a dream home, and the results range from the humble to the bizarre.

Different sex, different dreams

An ensuite bathroom came in a modest second – with one in three people (33%) aspiring to have one in their dream home.

Unsurprisingly it’s the girls who are more likely to want an ensuite bathroom. In fact, it topped the list for females, with almost 40% saying this was a dream home aspiration.

Walk-in wardrobes were also high on the female agenda, with 37% aspiring for one – the same number of women who want an indoor pool in their dream home.

Dreaming on

From sheds to bigger gardens and ensuite bathrooms, some features on the list are rather ordinary.

But not all of us are so reserved. For some, a garden gate is simply not enough to keep people out – one million Brits aspire to have a moat surrounding their house!

Have a look at the full list to see if your dream features are on it:

Ian Williams from Ocean Finance said: “It’s interesting to see what people would aspire to have in their dream homes, but some of the results are surprising.

“Many of the features – while nice additions to homes – are not overly lavish or out of reach. For example, a shed or ensuite bathroom could be attainable without having to spend a massive amount of money.”

A moat? Seriously, some people said that? Lol!! For me, I’d like a craft room in my dream home. Somewhere to put all my craft stash such as fabrics, sewing machine, beads, sequins, wool, felt etc. Where I don’t have to pack it all away again.

Ah, a craft room would be great! I’d love a music room filled with musical instruments – sound-proofed of course :)

I would say a nice kitchen and a nice outdoor space would be at the top of my list. Unless I was super rich, maintaining a pool would be a bigger pain than it’s worth. And at this point I’d love laundry. Right now I have to go to the laundromat. :(
