Changing Your Name Via Deedpoll: 5 Strangest Names

Many of us at some point in our lives will change our lives. In fact, recent reports show that the British public are becoming much more relaxed about changing our names by deed poll.

Indeed, it is becoming a popular choice to rename yourself after a favourite popstar or footballer or even a comic book superhero.

As a society we are becoming much more open and accepting of each other’s life choices and identities and perhaps this is becoming evident in the expressions of individuality shown in the increasing number of unique name changes at the deed poll office.

Here are just five unusual tales of deed poll name changes, taken from a list we found on Simply Deedpolls:

  1. Beauty Therapist Pink Sparkly And All Things Nice renamed herself as such due to her love of all things pink and sparkly.

Not only has this allowed the previously named Charlotte Price to express her inner sparkle, it has also made for an interesting conversation starter with her clientele.

Despite the fact that this is a slightly bonkers choice to say the least, you can’t say that this glam lady isn’t staying true to herself. You go get ‘em Pink Sparkly!

  1. A meat lover has recently decided to display his devotion to burgers by changing his name to Mr Bacon Double Cheeseburger.

According to Mr Cheeseburger: “A name is the least important part of your identity. Its given to you by somebody else”.

Bacon’s laissez faire attitude towards his sizzling new name is arguably refreshing in a country where there is still rather snobbish standards as to what constitutes a “proper” name.

After all, a burger by any other name would taste as juicy.

  1. Jemma Rogers became Jemmaroid Von Laalaa purely in order to get access to her Facebook account.

This was initially the jokey name she gave herself on her Facebook profile.

However, when stricter rules regarding legal names on Facebook began to apply, Jemmaroid found herself locked out of her account and completely panic stricken.

  1. We have all heard tales of Justin Bieber super-fans going above and beyond in order to declare their love.

However, this story must surely top the lot. Gabrielle Newton-Bieber, previously Gabrielle Newton, altered her name by deed poll in order to appear as though she is married to her idol.

It is unclear whether or not this bold move has attracted the attention of her “husband” but, of course, we should never say never .

  1. For many activist’s, campaigning is an integral part of their identity.

This is perhaps most literally true for Charity Worker previously known as Abi Izzard who changed her name to StopFortnumAndMasonFoieGrasCruelty.com as a protest against Fortnum and Mason force feeding geese in order to produce luxury foie gras.

Friends now refer to her as Dotcom for short.

Dotcom is pretty chilled about the fuss that this must surely cause, insisting that this pales in comparison to the suffering of geese worldwide.

You have to admit, her commitment is pretty admirable.
