Changes in Job Titles

by Leave a Comment

Have you ever been speaking to a friend or family member and asked them what do they do for a living or what their official job title is and then gasped with ‘You do WHAT?’ This type of response use to be reserved for the person that has an obscure job title or someone who is in a particular specialist field that you have no knowledge about.

Have you recently browsed through the vacancy section of the newspaper?  There are so many different positions available that make me sit up and say ‘They want WHAT?’ simply because ten years ago the titles were not in existence!

Sit back and think about it for a minute, what is your official job title and was your job title in existence 10 years ago?  The probability of it being a derivative of something less grandeur is huge, but in essence, your job did not exist 10 years ago!

I read this informative article which lists 5 jobs with their requirements, none of the jobs listed were available 10 years ago!

Can you imagine that in 10 or 20 years time your current job title is going to sound as antiquated as the leech collector mentioned in the article?
