
There are very few people who like being bombarded with sales consultants, whether they are the overly friendly ladies that walk around department stores trying to lure you to their cubicle or the gentlemen on the phone that happen to catch you right at the wrong time, if you are given a choice you would almost always request NOT to be added to mailing lists or databases which will provide your information to marketers.
The problem is that banking institutions have a lot of valuable data on each of their clients, and they are now prepared to use this information for their own benefit. According to the article on The Telegraph there are laws against data mining and the use of data obtained without the consent of the consumer, but the article also goes on to state that the laws are not well defined.
