Shopping online for some people is pretty scary in general. Moreover, a few existing myths and pretty unreal legends about online shopping are not helping those people overcome some imaginable boundaries either; that actually keep them away from the beautiful world of e-shopping.
If you are one of such people, or if you tried online shopping and got disappointed, today I am going to try and chance to your mind. I gathered six most common myths about online shopping industry and all other things about it, and I am going to bust them all just for you!
Shipping will take ages
Not always! Of course, if you buy an item in another part of the world, it might take some time to get delivered to you, but usually, that shouldn’t take longer than three weeks or so. On the other hand, if you’re in the US and buy from a store located in the United States, your purchase should be delivered in a few work days. The converse is true for UK shoppers buying in the UK.
Usually, many e-retailers write down the estimated delivery date for you, and personally, I never received an item after the estimated date. So basically, read carefully what the seller is writing and save your trust issues for more important parts of your life.
People are shopping online for smaller prices
This silly legend is partly true I am not going to lie. Online undoubtedly offers a huge possibility for cheaper shopping, but saying that this is the only reason people shop online is not entirely true.
To be fair, many people actually surf the web for the huge selection and the fact that the whole world can be their supermarket meaning. Also, the internet can offer people more privacy, the ability to shop 24/7 and other benefits. So the myth that online is a place where only low prices exist is not true – there are many other advantages you will get if you shop on the web.
There are no discounts online because everything is cheap already
Again – yes. Online many items are cheaper than buying in stores, but the myth that you can’t get a discount to reduce price tags even more is not true. To be fair, there are literally millions of online coupons, and there is no problem for you to get them and use it as much as you want, even during sales or clearances!
I always show these Bloomingdale’s online coupons as a perfect example how easy is to shop online and get a discount on everything that is on sale there. Even if the store is actually selling pretty high-quality and luxurious stuff! So, this myth is not true at all, and you can always find a discount coupon to use online.
Online shopping is not so convenient compared with in-store shopping
Well, ok. If some people think that in-store shopping is more convenient – let them think like that. But if you always believed that dealing with huge masses of annoying people, salespeople and the fact that sometimes your shopping trip might take a few hours from your day, then you won’t believe this myth at all.
E-shopping guarantees you relaxing and easy shopping 24/7, without any crowds and annoying salespeople who try to make you buy things you don’t want. Moreover, you even don’t need to drive to a store and spend half a day on a road and in a store – everything can be done from your living room, and all your purchases will be delivered to you! Isn’t that convenient?
Online you will be robbed and will lose your identity
If you are sharing your personal information at every website you visit, you are taking an enormous risk for sure. But in fact, being robbed and losing your identity while shopping online is like winning a lottery – only the “luckiest” ones will get that. If you want to lose such “lottery”, there are only two things you should remember.
First, always shop at a website and store you really trust. Usually, the big name retailers like JCPenney, Kohl’s and so on, will do everything to protect their customers from online fraud and make their websites safe (you can see the special “lock” icon near the URL bar or the letter “S” at the end of HTTP).
And the second thing you should remember is to be cautious about what kind of information the store is asking you to fill in. If you are being requested to write down the direct exchange of financial information, you are probably at a fake e-store, and you should better leave. So, to sum up, shop at a store you trust, and don’t just give up your personal information so easily.
It will be hard to return the purchase if I don’t like it
And finally, many people believe that you will struggle a lot if you decide to return your purchase back to the store. What can I say about this? Well, that is absolutely not true! E-retailers know what people are not able to touch and see the product they buy in reality, so they make their return policy easy and doable for everyone. So even if you are not happy with the colour of the product you bought, any e-store should be pleased to take it back and return your money without any struggle.
The basic thing I would like to recommend here would be reading terms and conditions carefully and not just agree on that automatically. This is how you will know your rights and can prove the store wrong if there are some problems with returning or the product itself.
